Aer Lingus returns annual profits of €46.6million

Aer Lingus has announced that it has returned a profit in 2010 following large losses in 2009. Even with the problems of the Ash Cloud, industrial disputes and the disruption of the snow in December, the company were able to turn around the company and to enter into the black. It is anticipated however that there is still tough times ahead for one of Ireland’s main airlines. The increased airport charges in Dublin and Heathrow, along with the rising fuel prices will all have a negative affect and will erode current profits quickly.

Shannon Airport caught in the middle

Shannon airport have become the centre of an ongoing row between Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) and Ryanair. Michael O’Leary, Ryanair’s chief executive, has advised that he will increase the amount of Ryanair flights and the number of passengers going through airport, but only on certain conditions which he beleives Aer Lingus have in Dublin. He has also said the DAA “doesn’t give a shit” about Shannon airport.
